There are two houses in the legislative branch. The first one is the House of Representatives and the second one is the Senate. In this case the number of representatives in each state is however determined by the population level but each state is guaranteed to have at least one representative regardless of its population size. Another one is lawmaking process. New laws are drafted in a process where a member of the Congress introduces a bill. A law proposed by a member of either Houses tend to be a bill. The bill after introduction moves to a committee for consideration comprising of experts on specific subjects. This bill can either be rejected or approved. Rejecting it means it will not go further. The members of the Congress debate and vote on it after approval. The bill goes to the President. The bill is either vetoed or signed.
Next is Filibuster. This tends to be a legislative tactic used by lawmakers to delay or prevent drafting new laws. It’s an unofficial tradition in which the senators delay the voting of a bill by speaking about the subject for an extended length of time. This is operational as the Senate rules speaks clearly about it. There are considerable debates about reforming or removing filibuster but its unlikely that it will change in the future.
There is also conference committees. It helps resolve differences between the Senate and the House. Having a different version of a bill being passed by the two houses causes differences which this company comes to solve. Significant changes or new provisions are made in this case. Upon completion of this product new version, its then voted for which later goes to the president.
The last one is the Presidential veto. Its good to note that Presidents lacks the ability to make laws without working with the Congress despite them having super powers. This bill is signed, ignored or vetoed by the President within ten days.
